Bridge to the Parish Field

This footbridge for a rural primary school began with the aim of improving the legibility, safety and accessibility of the schools grounds and buildings for children and their parents. Despite being in a rural village the school had limited access to green space and a main playground was exposed to dangerous air pollution. Permission for a bridge over the river on the school boundary to give the school safe everyday access to the Parish Field was negotiated with the Parish Council and Environment Agency. An event to improve the school garden led to the PTA forming a team to successfully fundraise for the project. The bridge is designed to contribute to the wooded river valley and create a generous link between school and field.

On the school side of the project the steps form the edge to an outdoor classroom.
